VOIP

VoIP explained

To help demystify Internet Telephony and VoIP

From the location of the Internet phone to the location of the PPG, calls are made over the internet using VoIP technology. From the PPG the call can be completed to anywhere in the world using regular telephone lines. For example, if a PPG is installed on a PC in San Jose, California, a call from an office in London, England can be made to most of the phones in the San Jose area for free!

You place your call using your USB Internet phone and IP Phone software Your call goes over the Internet . . . . . to the computer C with  Personal Phone Gateway (PPG). Your call is connected to your regular phone line by VoIP modem.
A call from a hotel in Munich, Germany could also be made to an office in Tokyo via the PPG in San Jose for a fraction of the cost that the hotel would charge for a direct call. (Better still would be to put a 2nd PPG in Tokyo).

With the improvements in Internet bandwidth and VoIP technology, Internet telephony is now toll voice quality. However, due to high setup costs and the technical challenges of setting up an Internet long distance calling service, user’s choices have been limited to the “net phone” service providers and paying per minute call costs. With the introduction of the PPG, anyone can easily install a phone service that they personally own and eliminate per minute call charges.

First generation long distance was provided by the high cost long distance telecommunication companies. With the advent of the Internet, second generation long distance was provided by “net phone” service companies at lower cost. Now CuPhone is providing the third generation of long distance calling service that enables users to easily implement their own long distance service for free using the same VoIP technology as used by the expensive telecommunication companies.

The VoIP modem features include; full support of Windows XP, 2000, ME, SE and 98, support of both static and dynamic IP addressing, implementation of advanced Internet protocols developed by CuPhone to support calls placed from PCs behind Firewalls and routers. In addition the VoIP modem is fully compatible with all the worldwide phone systems, has received FCC and CE approvals and is able to share a regular or fax phone line.

Included with VoIP modems is an easy setup wizard to set which area codes calls can be placed to and the maximum duration of calls. Time, duration and number called are logged for each call. There are optional settings for user accounts and passwords. In addition calling can be enabled or blocked for specific phone numbers.
